HEALING IN THE AMAZON

When I first began to study Christian Science, I went to speak to a person who had been studying this Science for many years. Among other things, he set forth a reasoning that impressed me for its logic. I never forgot it. He told me that Jesus taught us we are the children of an all-loving God. Therefore it's impossible for God to have created things and beings that could harm His children.

Since that time, this truth always come to mind on occasions when it seems that some element of nature should be feared: germs, bacteria, microbes, and things of that sort. I've learned that God—our Father-Mother, the Creator of all that exists, who is infinitely wise—did not create any form of life, whether large or microscopic, with the power to harm us. Of course, this does not mean that we can neglect cleanliness; we need to be clean, but not for fear of germs, but for love of beauty, order, and purity.

I've experienced the practical effects of this prayer that acknowledges God's supremacy. I travel a lot, both for work and for pleasure, and many times I've been in places where hygiene was not ideal or in jungle areas subject to malaria, as well as dengue and yellow fever.
