CONTINUED PRAYER BRINGS HEALING

One Friday morning in the spring of 2007, I bent over to pick up something and felt a severe pain in my back and legs. I sat down, and immediately began to pray. I knew that since God lovingly maintained every aspect of my being, I could dispute the physical evidence of discomfort. In a short time the pain subsided, and I was able to continue with my normal activities.

Later that day, I noticed that the filter in our pond needed cleaning, and I reached down to pull it from the water. This time the pain returned with even more intensity. It was a major effort just to get to a place to sit down. Again I prayed, concentrating on the fact of my oneness with God and affirming that matter, including the physical body, had no power to cause suffering. I slowly made my way to my bedroom to lie down, and I continued to pray.

When my wife got home, she helped me call a Christian Science practitioner for prayer. One idea the practitioner and I talked about was that this was really a lie about God, who is the only power and is only good, and about the perfection He expresses in His creation—including me.
