ANYONE CAN BE A HEALER

TO BE A REFORMER

MY DESIRE to understand my purpose in life started as a young child, and I was blessed by people setting examples of integrity I could follow. These individuals showed me that expressing good, or God, was my purpose, and also that, ultimately, spiritual healing and being an advocate of reform, or positive change, are linked.

During my childhood, my parents and grandparents were all sincere and unique reformers in this way. They shared their love of Christian Science freely, and taught me to pray to God for healing of physical illnesses and friendship struggles. Early on, I learned that practicing Christian Science is about each individual listening to God one-on-one and constantly growing spiritually.

I like how Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of this magazine and a wonderful reformer herself, mentions in her writings: "...the reformer continues his lightning, thunder, and sunshine till the mental atmosphere is clear. The reformer must be a hero at all points, and he must have conquered himself before he can conquer others. Sincerity is more successful than genius or talent" (Message to The Mother Church for 1900, p. 9).
