A COMPLETE HEALING

One day I was moving a large couch when I lost my grip and dropped the heavy sofa on my foot. I managed to get it off, but had to immediately sit down because of the pain.

I knew from my experience with practicing Christian Science that mentally holding to the picture or thought of an accident and pain would not be helpful. Instead, I wanted to keep my thoughts focused in prayer, based on this statement from Science and Health: "Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious—as Life eternally is—can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not. Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony" (Science and Health, p. 495).

In the past, those ideas had taught me to turn immediately to thinking about God as loving, ever present, and good, and of myself as including those qualities. So that's exactly what I did. I mentally filled my whole being with thoughts of the goodness and loving nature of my Father-Mother God.
