FREEDOM FROM ALTITUDE SICKNESS IN EXTREME CONDITIONS

A little over three years ago, I traveled to Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. I was very excited because I'd raised sufficient funds for charity to enable me to participate in an eight-day climbing trip. Together with 15 others, all of whom had also raised money for charities of their choice, we were going to embark on a six-day climb to the 19,344-ft. summit with a Tanzanian group leader and a team of porters.

After landing at the local Kilimanjaro airport, I waited for my luggage—a 50-litre rucksack packed with an important kit for the expedition. It never arrived.

Since I'd been brought up in Christian Science, I began to pray to sort out my thoughts and acknowledge that nothing essential could really be lost in God's creation. I also prayed to know that I didn't have to blame anyone and not to see anyone as being at fault for my luggage going missing.
