A BETTER WAY TO GO
I WAS MOSTLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE CHILDREN.
My husband and I had just learned that we were going to be moving across country, and that we had about two weeks over the Christmas holidays in which to do it. And while I found the prospect of change invigorating, I wasn't convinced that the move would be such a positive experience for our kids.
Our very social son—who was turning four years old—had just started preschool and was loving every minute of it. We were delighted with the school, and uncomfortable with the idea of switching him to a new one right after he'd settled in. But more than that, we were moving to a town with a very competitive preschool environment, and it seemed unlikely that we would be able to find a spot for him in the middle of the school year. I was troubled by the idea of our son being at home all day when he was so clearly ready to be with other children. It seemed like such a regressive step.
