BACK PAIN QUICKLY HEALED

In March 2006, our family gathered for the joyous occasion of our daughter's wedding. Our house was full of bridesmaids, and family members and friends from Europe were staying in a hotel a few blocks away. Our two sons had arrived, and we had planned and charted each of the final seven days so nothing could be missed, overlooked, or go wrong. My daughter and her fiance had prayed for many months to acknowledge and cherish the fact that this would be a harmonious, God-directed activity, expressing joy and gratitude for His guidance in leading them to this point.

I leaned heavily on those thoughts when, two days before the wedding, I suddenly found myself experiencing wrenching pain in my back. All sixteen members of the bridal party had gathered to start the day, but nobody except my husband noticed when I turned pale and went upstairs. He told our daughter, and she later said that she was grateful for the short time she had to gather her thoughts before she saw me. Instead of being worried by the material picture of her mother in pain, she immediately reminded me of all the prayer that had gone into affirming the harmony of this event, that God's goodness reigned supreme, and that I was included in His kingdom.

I felt myself going through the physical symptoms of shock and struggled to stay conscious. I have to admit that for a moment I thought, "We've planned this wedding with such care, and now I'm not even going to be able to walk down the aisle at the ceremony?" But right away, as I have countless times before, I turned to what I know to be true—God is omnipotent, and that means there is nothing outside of His good and perfect realm.
