'BY LABOR DAY, I WAS HIKING'

On August 20, 2006, I accidentally stepped into a hole, twisting my leg and foot. I heard a sound like a crack. I was in a lot of pain and unable to put any weight on my leg. My husband and another man helped me to the car.

Christian Science has taught me that I am God's expression, therefore spiritual, and when praying about my health and circumstances, I've learned to begin reasoning from this fact. Most of my life I've successfully relied on prayer, so I felt comfortable doing so again. And I'm happy to say that by Labor Day weekend, two weeks later, I was hiking in the mountains.

But that particular night I was very uncomfortable, and both my foot and ankle were swollen and discolored. As I prayed, I opened to this line in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "An improved belief is one step out of error, and aids in taking the next step and in understanding the situation in Christian Science" (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 296). The idea of one step aiding the next caught my attention.
