Pray as you go

When I first had children, a friend told me, "Get used to praying on your feet." She was right. I definitely had less time to sit in a quiet corner, but that didn't stop me from listening to God while I was doing the dishes, cleaning the house, or changing a diaper. Because I was spending more time taking care of others, I felt a greater demand than ever to see my prayers in action.

That concept of "pray as you go" really challenged me to go higher in my practice of Christian Science healing. Since I was a teenager, I'd suffered from debilitating headaches that often left me out of commission for the day and were so painful I could hardly think. I dreaded them. But as a mother, I couldn't very well just spend the day in bed.

I decided to pray about the headaches before they occurred. I remember facing my fear of the pain and becoming really clear about its complete unreality in my experience. In many ways, the pain had simply gone unchallenged. But as soon as I confronted it, I saw there was no basis or foundation for its existence, since I couldn't be separated from God, good.
