Childlike prayer

Nights may be cold, the darkness deep,
when searching where to go and how.
Yet God is close and caring though
deliverance may not seem sure when
faith in ordinary ways has failed, yearning
for safety becomes fear of wilderness.

But there is precedent for hope. Remember
Moses bravely prayed, and then the Israelites
moved through a parting of the sea, eluding
Pharaoh and his chariots. Recall that Joseph
was betrayed, still trusted God, and through
his own forgiving he was blessed, winning
a kingdom, reuniting with his family.

Think too of Saul who persecuted Christians,
then encountered Christ near Damascus where
he found his life redeemed, a new identity as
Paul in following Christ.

When prayer is childlike, "Father, tell me what
to do," God's unconditional acceptance of our
love comes clear. Knowing who He has always
been, we pray that we will walk with Him.
