'I PRAYED WITH MY WAKING THOUGHTS FROM THAT MORNING'

As someone who has practiced Christian Science all my life, one of the things I've come to do each morning is turn immediately to God and listen for spiritual ideas to help start my day. One morning this past winter, the first thought that came upon waking was the first sentence in the preface of Science and Health, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (p. vii). I felt uplifted and thought, "I'm going to look for the blessings today."

At work that same morning, I was walking down an outside path between two buildings. It was very icy, and I made a mental note to issue a memo to my colleagues reminding them to be cautious and take an alternate route.

The next thing I remembered was sitting in a chair in the front hallway of the building I was heading for, feeling disoriented and wondering what had just happened. Someone was handing me a cell-phone saying, "It's your wife.
