'SPIRIT WILL FORM YOU ANEW'

In 1998, when our son, Tim, was 14, a metal school door shut on his hand, cutting off the tip of his little finger, including the entire nail. When the school wasn't able to reach my husband or me, Tim was rushed to a hospital emergency room. The doctor didn't think his finger could grow back naturally, and he also didn't think there was a strong chance that surgery would successfully reattach it.

Because Tim had seen so many examples of healing entirely through prayer in his life, he declined the operation. The doctor had access to Tim's school file, and found the name of a Christian Science practitioner we'd included. He called her, and she supported Tim's decision, assuring the doctor that Christian Science was safe and effective care. He accepted this, bandaged the finger, and released Tim. By this time, my husband and I had received word about the incident, and my husband was on his way to pick up Tim.

As soon as Tim arrived home, we called the practitioner back to ask for her continued prayers. We also asked a Christian Science nurse to stop in several times a week to keep the finger clean and bandaged.
