'SO YOU MADE THE COOKIES?'

FOR MUCH OF THIS YEAR I've had the opportunity to be at home with our infant daughter. I've thoroughly enjoyed feeding her, changing diapers, watching her make her first sounds, utter her first words, laughing, clapping, crawling, and taking her first steps.

An old friend called the other day and asked how it felt to be the man at home while my wife works outside the home. She was looking for the inside scoop—she and her husband are preparing to have a child, and like my wife and me, they would like to hold off enrolling their child in daycare or preschool for as long as possible. Because of the type of work she does, it's more likely that my friend's husband will be the one to stay at home.

"So, Kwadjo," she asked. "What's it like? How do you feel?"
