LET SPIRITUALITY—NOT STIMULANTS—RENEW YOUR STRENGTH
A recent online chat on spirituality.com featured MARK SWINNEY, a Christian Science practitioner who teaches Christian Science in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mark is currently serving a one-year term as President of The First Church of Christ, Scientist. A former athlete, Mark is well aware of the pressures sports figures face to succeed, and the temptations to use stimulants that come with those pressures. Below is a selection of the questions asked during the chat, and Mark's responses. To hear the whole chat, go to www.spirituality.com/chats/strength.
How do you deal with the challenge of fatigue, bearing in mind that you don't use stimulants?
Most of the time, people will think of themselves as either completely made of matter or as having some spiritual qualities inside a material shell. I believe we're much more than a material shell with a few spiritual qualities mixed in. The Bible says, "Ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit" (Rom. 8:9), and that opens the door to a completely new way to look at ourselves.
