AMAZING ANIMALS—HOW I TELL THEIR STORY

DEBORAH RIVEL has had a lot of experience with animals. She runs her own company, Wildsight Productions, Inc., which has produced shows for public television and Discovery Channel's Animal Planet. Here, Deborah, who's a Christian Scientist, answers questions about animals and her work that kids' Sentinel readers asked.

For ten years I produced and directed wildlife films for television. My shows appeared on over 100 TV channels around the world and won a lot of awards. Now I'm doing other things with animals, such as making information about them available on cellphones. I'm always looking for ways to get people to think about animals differently—and to see them more as God sees them.

I filmed at a place that rescues really big cats—lions, tigers, leopards. The keepers take the tigers there for a walk every day. It's amazing to see an 11-foot-long tiger on a leash, walking quietly alongside a person. Many people think that it's scary because big cats can hurt them. But these keepers are smart around the animals. They love and respect the tigers, and the tigers return the same affection to them.
