PRAYER HEALS INFECTIOUS SKIN DISEASE

"OK, Todd, here's the Journal and here's the phone book. Either call a practitioner or call a doctor, but it's time to call someone and get some help!"

In those words, my mom issued a no-nonsense request that would have a significant impact on my life, and help solidify my life-long commitment to practice spiritual healing as taught in Christian Science. I was a senior in high school, and my interest in Christian Science was at best moderate, as measured by a reasonable tolerance for attending Sunday School. To that point in my life, I had witnessed healings through prayer in my family, but otherwise had had very little need for making a choice such as the one I was facing.

I was one of six guys on my highschool wrestling team who had contracted impetigo—an infectious skin disease. When word of the outbreak reached the school nurse, we were asked to remain home until the condition cleared up. The concern was that if the condition were not properly treated, it might spread over my body. A couple of my teammates had been hospitalized in order to better contain and cure the infection.
