'TO HELP AND HEAL OTHERS'

Why does a church have a board of education? How can revealed truth be taught? How do you become a teacher of Christian Science? What governs and guides the teacher-pupil relationship? TOM BLACK, the present Teacher on the Church of Christ, Scientist's Board of Education, discusses these and related questions with the Board's President, KARL "SANDY" SANDBERG, and the Vice-President, OLGA CHAFFEE.

Tom Black: Mary Baker Eddy refers to "the majesty of Christian Science" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 188). What does Christian Science mean to you?

Olga Chaffee: Even as a child in Sunday School, I understood very clearly that Christian Science is the Comforter that was promised by Jesus in the Bible. Jesus said that the Comforter would come and remind us of everything that he had said. It's the continuation of his work, the fulfillment of his prophecy. That is why we're full of conviction and can say, "This is the final revelation." Why do we call it a revelation? Because it comes from spiritual understanding; it's not an academic process. It is what mankind has been looking for even before Abraham. We've been looking for answers to the questions: What is man? What am I doing here? Who am I? Where do we come from? Where are we going? What's the purpose of life? And Christian Science is the answer. This is it. This is the "pearl of great price" that mankind has been looking for, for millennia.
