The battle is never ours

I can't deny it. I've always liked the quick healings through prayer—the ones that don't seem to require any battle at all. But in thinking about this week's cover topic, it gives me great comfort to know that the battle is never ours, but God's. Warren Bolon elaborates on this point in our lead article, "The warfare we do want to wage." I love his statement that "God wants each of us to win our battles."

Truly there is nothing that can oppose the all-power of God. And we can demonstrate this through applying the laws of Christian Science. Mary Baker Eddy wrote, "Christian Science speedily shows Truth to be triumphant" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 493). I've found the power of Truth brings clarity to every situation I might be confronted with—immediately—even if it may take a while for me to see it. And some challenges I've faced have definitely required me to roll up my sleeves and refuse to stop praying until clarity of thought comes—along with healing. But in the process, I've gained a priceless understanding of God's love for me—and a firmer faith based on this spiritual understanding.

Mary Baker Eddy also wrote, "To energize wholesome spiritual warfare, to rebuke vainglory, to offset boastful emptiness, to crown patient toil, and rejoice in the spirit and power of Christian Science, we must ourselves be true" (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 86). Being true to ourselves means seeing ourselves as God sees us—and as nothing else. On page 11 you can read Charles Ferris's account of how profound this seeing is in bringing about healing. To me, healing, and the spiritual growth that makes healing possible, is the crown that makes this whole spiritual journey so worthwhile.
