ALL UNDER GOD'S CONTROL

My heartfelt gratitude to God for Christian Science began over 50 years ago, when I was a young teenager and witnessed my mother's healing of a medically diagnosed digestive condition. There have also been healings in my family of flu, infections, blood poisoning, and many other difficulties.

Recently, I was healed of a paralytic condition and severe joint pain. I had been working diligently on several projects which I greatly enjoyed, but was experiencing strained relations with some of my colleagues. I not only felt that my sincere efforts were not appreciated, but that there was even an undercurrent of negativity directed toward me.

I spent time every day praying about the situation, and based my prayer on direction that Mary Baker Eddy gives in the Manual of The Mother Church. I focused on pages 40—42, and its references to daily prayer, watching and defending our thinking, and letting Love, or God, alone, guide motives and actions. Particularly helpful was this from Science and Health: "Christian Scientists, be a law to yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or when awake" (p. 442). I called this activity my daily defense work. It was a time of refuge that allowed me to get a clearer view of my God-given identity, and also to see others in a spiritual light.
