A CHOICE FOR PRAYER

Mary Baker Eddy wrote, "Spirit is the only substance and consciousness recognized by divine Science" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 278). I had to prove the truth of this statement last year, when one day I left work feeling very ill.

After I arrived home, I threw up a large amount of blood. This was so startling to me that I remember thinking, What is the cause of this? Could it be cancer or something else life-threatening? I thought of a lot of fearful predictions at that moment. But I also knew from my study of Christian Science that God is the only Cause, and that my thoughts could truly only proceed from this one divine consciousness.

Although I was feeling extremely weak, I was able to make my way to bed where the phone was. At that point, I knew I had a choice to make—I could either call 911 or turn wholeheartedly to prayer in Christian Science.
