THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

AT CLOSE OF DAY

I took this picture on the spur of the moment as I was going to visit a friend who lives on the fifth floor of a condominium here in Florida.

What was captured on film only hints at the splendor of this sunset. The rays are unusually significant in that they radiate throughout the sky, much in the way God's love radiates throughout the universe, reaching all of His children.

The clouds in front of the sun remind me of the clouds that appear in our lives and seem threatening. But right where they are, right there is also the majesty of God's love, glowing full-orbed and meeting our needs. That love cannot ever be hidden. It is always available for us to enjoy. It comforts and heals us.

The foreground of trees, houses, and other condominiums is darkened in the glow of this glorious scene. It's as though the light is shutting out the details of human existence —people scurrying about, coming home from work, fixing dinner, tending to the busyness of closing down another day.

In this scene, for just a second or two, everything seems to stand still. Soon it will change, and the scene will fade into a memory. It's like catching a glimpse of heaven—the heaven that is always with us.
