INJURED THUMB QUICKLY HEALED

Originally published in Der Christian Science Herold

One evening in winter, I walked out onto the parking lot in front of my house to wait for a visitor I was expecting. Outside it was freezing, and the street surface was covered with patches of ice. While I was waiting, I stepped on a small elevation in the pavement that was iced up and very slippery. I promptly slipped and fell flat on the frozen ground.

In order to try to catch myself, I had instinctively put out my hands, and, because of that, I landed on one thumb. I noticed right away that the fall had damaged it, although other than that, nothing else was hurt. My thumb was very painful and becoming increasingly swollen, to the point that it became numb and I didn't have any more sensation in it.

My first thought was, Why did this have to happen now? I had been all prepared for my company, and I didn't want to spend time now on dealing with a handicap. Also, I was going on a trip in a few days, and I was very concerned that this might impede my mobility. But I had had healings in Christian Science many times before, and so it was natural for me to turn to God in prayer.
