QUICK RECOVERY FROM A FALL FROM A HORSE

One day during a family holiday in Italy, my granddaughter, Emma, went horse riding with her mum in the hills of Tuscany. The rest of us stayed by the swimming pool and the tennis court, planning to go back to the stables an hour later to welcome them home—armed with camera, and carrots for the horses.

But within 30 minutes, we got news that Emma had fallen from her pony, and she and her mum had been given a lift back to our apartment. Clearly, things were not well with Emma. She was shaken, and unable to remember what had just happened to her, where she was, what day it was, and why we were there.

As a family, we immediately started to pray for Emma, which was our normal way of going about things. We shared Bible verses and sentences from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy that came to mind, comforting Emma as best we could. And we sang hymns together, including the one that begins, "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power" (Mary Baker Eddy, Christian Science Hymnal, No. 207).
