"PATIENTS WHO ARE HAVING problems coping with difficult times during their life, such as the loss of a loved one or depression, will now be offered a range of professionally selected self-help books to complement traditional treatments as part of an initiative being extended across Wales.
"Book Prescription Wales is based on an award-winning Cardiff scheme, which was the first of its kind in the UK. The benefits of the scheme have already been recognised and adopted by GPs in Neath Port Talbot, Gwynedd, and more than 40 other areas across the UK.
"GPs complete a form, similar to a medical prescription, with the title of a book recommended to suit a patient's individual needs. The 'prescription' can then be taken to a local library where a librarian will supply the book on an extended loan.
