'COMMUNITY' BUILT ON SPIRIT
is any word in the English language developing quite so quickly, and broadly, as community? Just think back to the front-page stories of the past few weeks.
Following the July 7 London bombings, there seemed to be just as many pictures of people helping others as there were shots of the damage or of the suspected killers.
When a supermarket under demolition in Manhattan collapsed during the earlymorning rush hour, passersby were the first to help the injured out of the jagged pile of rubble, with total disregard for their own safety or personal commitments.
