A COMPLETE HEALING ON A HIKE
For several months, my husband and I had been looking forward to a hike down the Sani Pass (near the highest point in southern Africa) with a group of friends. It was to be a special occasion, a once-a-year-only event, hosted by professional botanists from the Botanical Society of South Africa, who would be identifying and describing the huge variety of beautiful flowers in this area.
On the Monday of the week we were to leave for the trip, however, one of my ankles suddenly became quite painful. During the night, the discomfort intensified to the point that I wakened my husband and asked him to pray for me—I couldn't find a comfortable position for my foot, nor was I able to pray effectively for myself. I had never encountered this before, and didn't know whether I had been bitten by an insect, or whether it was tendon or muscle trouble. But I immediately decided to turn my thoughts to God and to rely completely on His power to heal. This had proved effective for me on many occasions in the past.
When I was eventually able to begin praying for myself, one of the helpful thoughts that came to mind was a stanza from a loved hymn:
