'I KNEW THAT GOD'S HEALING POWER WOULD PREVAIL'
One Friday afternoon about two years ago, while helping friends unload some fencing, I fell and severely injured my right arm and wrist. I'm right-handed and live alone, so the injury presented particular challenges to doing things for myself.
Since turning to prayer for healing has been a lifelong remedy, I called a Christian Science practitioner for spiritual aid. The pain had increased, and I was concerned that I might have broken a bone. The thoughts he shared about God's healing power immediately began to alleviate the pain. They also calmed my fears about the condition of my arm, and got me on the right track toward healing. We prayed together for about 10 days along these lines, after which I decided to continue praying on my own.
From the beginning, I felt freed from any limits that the condition might have imposed on me. I also didn't feel the need to use material aids, such as a sling or a bandage. I challenged myself to find creative ways to do whatever I needed to do, or go wherever I needed to go. This included regular tasks, from getting dressed to preparing meals. As a result, I didn't seek additional help at home, and there was nothing I needed to cancel, including serving as a Reader in my Church of Christ, Scientist. I even became somewhat proficient in writing with my left hand, and the following Tuesday, I took part in a community activity that involved initialing a large number of forms.
