QUICK FREEDOM FROM ACUTE PAIN

Originally published in Le Héraut de la Christian Science

I have received so many blessings from our Father-Mother God that I consider it my duty to express my gratitude for them in these pages. I would particularly like to testify to a healing I had in 1996.

It was a Sunday, and my wife and I were invited to dinner at the house of another couple who were friends of ours. In the middle of the meal, I was struck by a terrible pain in my stomach. I had to leave the table and lie down on a couch. Streaming with sweat, I turned to God to find help through prayer, understanding that I was His beloved child and that, under no circumstance, could this happy occasion, this opportunity to spend time with friends, give rise to suffering. I knew that these friends were also supporting me through prayer. This cheered me up, and we went back home.

However, after we arrived home, I felt so confused mentally that I was unable to read by myself the Bible Lesson for that week, given in the Christian Science Quarterly. But my wife read it to me once, then a second time.

A passage from the Bible caught my attention: "Be silent, O all flesh, before the Lord" (Zech. 2:13). I asked my wife to read to me the definitions of flesh and Spirit in the chapter Glossary in Science and Health. Mary Baker Eddy defined the word flesh, in part, as "a supposition that life, substance, and intelligence are in matter; an illusion; a belief that matter has sensation"; and Spirit as "all that is good; God; that only which is perfect, everlasting, omnipresent, omnipotent, infinite" (pp. 586 and 594).

The light shone in my consciousness. I understood very clearly that what I was suffering from was only an illusion that had to keep silent in the presence of God, eternal Spirit. Then, almost immediately, I felt the pain leaving me like a piece of clothing I would take off. I was healed. I felt perfectly fine.

I am very grateful to our Father-Mother God for His infinite love.
