ARM AND SHOULDER PAIN HEALED THROUGH PRAYER
A persistent and debilitating pain in my left arm and shoulder had been bothering me for several months, when I attended my annual Christian Science students' association meeting in the fall of 2004. I had prayed about the condition off and on, but had not yet found relief.
The theme of the meeting was a passage from Science and Health: "In conscience, we cannot hold to beliefs outgrown; and by understanding more of the divine Principle of the deathless Christ, we are enabled to heal the sick and to triumph over sin" (p. 28). I was eager to hear about, and to understand more deeply, this divine Principle. I knew that Principle is God, whose law of harmony governs every aspect of our lives. I prayed to be receptive to the ideas I would hear.
At the meeting, I was reminded that in giving an effective Christian Science treatment, I should support the prayer by knowing that it is based on the truths that God is All and is perfect, and that man reflects that perfection. I also knew that I should acknowledge that there is no evil power that can deny or reverse God's power. I remembered that getting rid of fear is essential in spiritual healing, and that I can do this by realizing the omnipresence and omnipotence of divine Love. I also saw that I could specifically refute false material beliefs that seem to cause discord in daily life, and that I needed to persist in keeping clearly in thought the facts about our spiritual existence as children of God. In reviewing these steps, I felt new confidence that God did indeed enable me to heal.
