MOBILITY REGAINED QUICKLY AFTER FALL

Late one evening, after going for a swim, I intended to do some weeding at the fence surrounding the swimming pool. Standing on the brick near the weeds, I suddenly lost my balance and went down on the bricks. I landed on my knee and heard a loud crack. I noticed my knee was bleeding, and my leg was very painful and beginning to swell.

I am a lifelong Christian Scientist and have learned to pray in every situation by turning to what I understand to be the spiritual truth of my being. Immediately I remembered a statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection" (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 424). I knew that as the image of God, I was always reflecting God's perfection. So I refused to accept that I could suffer from an accident. I kept declaring God's ever-presence aloud while praying to know my next move.

Unable to stand on that leg, I inched my way across the bricks and cement around the pool by rocking back and forth in a sitting position. As I moved along, I was strengthened by the thought that "whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself" (ibid., p. 385). I was comforted to know that the spiritual laws of God, as revealed in Science and Health, were sustaining me, and furnishing me with freedom.
