THE TRUTH breaks you free

I Learned of Christian Science at a very difficult moment in my life. It was a time when I had many anxieties and fears. Here in Peru, people were living with the threat of terrorism. Every day, car bombs exploded and people suffered. Every day when I woke up or said goodbye to my husband and children, I prayed that we would see each other again. Everyone lived with this fear.

I was also taking a lot of medication for serious stomach problems and back pain, and was always stopping in at the medical clinic for doctors' appointments. On one of these visits, I was diagnosed with a herniated disc and was told I would need to return for an operation.

Soon after that, I got a call from a dear friend in the United States, and I told her what was happening. She spoke to me about God with such tenderness that I immediately felt at peace. Within a short time, she came to Peru and invited me to a Christian Science church service. At the end of the service, my friend gave me a copy of Science and Health, and I was very grateful, although I didn't begin reading it right away. However, my family and I continued to attend the Sunday services at that church because we enjoyed the loving atmosphere there.
