CHURCH LIVES

Just in time!

A CONTINUING SERIES ON HOW CHURCH
IS ACTIVE IN PEOPLE'S LIVES

Eleven years ago, I was sitting in my office at lunchtime, trying to hide my tears caused by the intense pain I felt, after surgery for a gynecological problem had back– fired. I was feeling shattered — with a sick marriage, poor health, and now, the lost hope of having children of my own.

Suddenly, my senior colleague appeared on the scene for some urgent, official work. But after looking at my face, he started talking to me about a healing method explained in the book Science and Health. He spoke with deep conviction in the healing power of God.

That was a Friday. On Sunday, I had the courage to leave behind my resistance to Christianity and attend Sunday services at the Christian Science Society that my colleague attended in Chandigarh. I was not familiar with the Christian way of singing hymns, and their method of praying was totally different from the method of praying in any temple I used to visit when I was growing up in the Hindu faith. But I felt great peace. My colleague sang a solo with the words, "Through the love of God our Saviour / All will be well" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 350). Tears started rolling down my eyes — and the pain vanished.
