In Churches of Christ, Scientist, the service is conducted by two Readers: One reads passages from the Bible and the other from Science and Health. I had a striking healing during the time when I was a reader in a church in the City of Sao Paulo.

This reading was very beautiful work, and I loved doing it. One Saturday, while I rehearsed in my home the Sermon for the next day's service, I began to feel very ill. At a certain point I could no longer sit still. Then I began to pace back and forth in the living room, singing a few hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal, including the hymns I had chosen for the service.

However, I got worse, and I concluded I was having a problem with my kidneys. I felt severe pain. No position was comfortable. I started to pray and thought of several citations I would be reading during the next day's service. A Christian Science practitioner, whom I called on the phone, agreed to pray with me. We spoke several times that day. I went to rest a little bit, because the pain persisted.
