A CONTINUING SERIES ON HOW CHURCH IS ACTIVE IN PEOPLE'S LIVES
CHURCH LIVES
Church across the miles
It's a sunny fall afternoon in Shakaskraal, South Africa, and I'm having tea and rusks under a scarlet flamboyant (poinciana) tree on the front lawn. The children are playing happily on the jungle gym.
As I look out toward the Indian Ocean in the distance, I feel deeply at peace. Also, just a little excited. Among several letters on the side of the tea tray are the latest issues of the Sentinel and The Christian Science Journal, winking at me through their plastic wrappers.
The magazines seldom arrive more than a day or two behind their date of issue. They are my trustworthy link to The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, which I joined four years ago. When you live so far away, these magazines are like rain on the cane fields or the call of the dove in the frangipani trees.
Enjoy 1 free Sentinel article or audio program each month, including content from 1898 to today.
