A 'calm, clear thought' brought healing

My introduction to the spiritual healing explained in Science and Health seemed like a "light on the road" experience to me. Newly wed, still in college, and searching for the truth about my relationship to God, I first learned of Christian Science when my mother-in-law was diagnosed at the Mayo Clinic with Lou Gehrig's disease. After hearing someone mention Christian Science, she sought healing through prayer, and as a result my husband had also become interested in the religion. Incidentally, she was completely healed, and was with us for another 25 years.

After months of resisting my husband's enthusiasm, I agreed to visit a Christian Science practitioner with him. That visit stirred my questions on what I had a right to know about God.

Two weeks later on a vacation to New Orleans, I was stricken with what we later determined was most likely food poisoning from a street vendor's food. A relative's premed pathology textbook listed each one of the symptoms I had experienced on a page describing severe food poisoning that could be fatal.
