The greatest treasure

Originally published in O Arauto da Christian Science

In 1980 I was suffering from back problems. Medicine was not able to offer me any solution. I was in great pain and wanted to die. After all, I was a widow without a pension.

During this time, a friend from Germany visited me and told me, "Zofia, I've heard you've been ill, and I've brought you this book. When you read it, you'll be reborn."

At first I didn't want to read it, but, since I was not at all well, I picked it up—Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I began to leaf through it and stopped at page vii, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings." That was like lightning in my consciousness. I felt like breathing, with a freshness I hadn't felt before. I reread this sentence many times. I continued reading until I finished the book. This was the greatest treasure I had ever had in my house, and it has become my spiritual nourishment.
