When loss becomes gain
From India to Canada—a family's courageous faith prevails through years of loss and change.
QUOTING THE PSALMS, Mary Baker Eddy wrote, "Step by step will those who trust Him find that 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble'" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p.444). Trusting God with all my heart has changed my life, step by step.
Nearly 30 years ago, my family moved to Montreal, Canada, from India. Like other newcomers, my husband, Rusi, and I felt that this country held a lot of promise for us and our two young children.
Our first few years in Canada were very challenging. After having taught school all my life, I was forced to go back to university full time to get an education degree because my academic and work qualifications from India were not recognized in Canada. After I graduated from McGill University, teaching jobs were scarce, and I found myself without any prospects of employment.
