Spiritually renewed

There are several articles in this issue telling of lives changed and lives renewed. The account given by Sandy Herbinger of her recovery from drug dependence is especially encouraging. As she told us her story, she paused from time to time to wipe the tears from her eyes. Even now, two years after finding Christian Science, she is frequently overwhelmed with gratitude for the way God rescued her from despair. And it all began in a hairdressing salon! (See page 10.)

The Bible sheds much light on spiritual rebirth. In John, chapter 3, Jesus made it clear to Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council, that people don't enter the kingdom of God simply by living a better life, but by being spiritually reborn.

Elsewhere, in the New Testament, Peter and John were agents in a startling, heartwarming experience of renewal when a lame man, who was begging outside the temple courts, was persuaded by Peter to accept the gift of healing. Clearly, the man was ready for change and ready to trust God for healing. He leapt to his feet "and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God" (Acts 3:8).
