Insights on prayer and healing
For many years I had longed to have an instant healing of some kind through prayer. Then recently I realized that all of my healings have been instantaneous, in that physical improvement became apparent just as soon as I truly understood my spiritual link with God and rejected the idea that He allowed something to be wrong with me.
I saw that my prayer involved keeping harmful conditions—such as being sick or unhappy or nervous—from affecting my well-being. I knew if I continually thought about such negative things, rather than arguing against their validity, that would be what others saw in me, too. So, I began making an effort to shift my way of thinking toward appreciating all that Christian Science had taught me about my relationship to God.
Having been raised by parents and a grandmother who were all students of Christian Science, and having attended a Christian Science Sunday School myself, I have always believed that God loves me; that God is good; that God cares for and protects me; and that God made me in His likeness, as the Bible says. Through the years, my prayer and study have convinced me that God is actually Truth itself.
