'Getting outside the doors'—a story of hope and inspiration
Baptist minister Levi Price spearheads a downtown church's reemergence into its community.
The First Thing you notice about Levi Price are the contradictions: He's a tall, rugged man, an athlete, dressed to the nines. But he's soft-spoken, self-effacing. And warm. A professor in a southern university who answers his phone with his first name. A family man. A Baptist preacher.
But Dr. Price will tell you himself that he is definitely a new type of Baptist preacher. Not that he isn't a dyed-in-the-wool-from-the-top-of-his-head-right-down-to-his-toes Baptist. He is indeed that. But his vision has grown wide enough and far enough to include—and to find a place for—anybody and everybody inside, or outside, his church's doors.
