Of teddy bears, duct tape— and CHRIST
WILL DUCT TAPE SAVE your life?" was an AOL news headline on February 12. "Disaster supplies selling out fast," was the subhead. The story told of people rushing to buy stocks of plastic sheeting and duct tape to seal their doors and windows to protect them from the lethal effects of a terrorist's "dirty bomb," as well as laying in bottled water for use in an emergency. Later that same evening a thoughtful, intelligent friend of mine quietly confided his heartfelt concern over the United States starting a war.
Is the world yearning to be comforted, to feel secure and safe?
Recently another friend told me about a little boy who needed comfort. He had tossed his blanket over a space heater and burned his family's house down. He and his seven foster BROTHERS and sisters were suddenly without a home, beds, and even clothes in one of the coldest Midwestern winters on record.
