Gathering news stories with a spiritual perspective week by week, we wondered what kinds of material the Sentinel of 100 years ago carried. Here is a glimpse into some of the Items of Interest and other excerpts from the Sentinel at the start of the 20th century.
Christian men and women who are deeply engaged in the work of the Church need to guard themselves against becoming so absorbed in methods that they overlook the real purpose and spirit for which the Church exists. Organization, machinery, attention to details are necessary, but they are only means to an end. When they become the end, they defeat the very purpose of their existence.
