Time to get out of the boat
The Bible is, among other things, a list of unforgettable walks, says author John Ortberg. But for him nothing beats the Apostle Peter's experience the day he got out of a boat and walked toward Jesus across a windy Sea of Galilee.
I think it's well worth reading the account given in the book of Matthew (14:22-33) and then dipping, as I did, into Ortberg's wise and sometimes humorous reflections on this remarkable incident in his book If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat (Zondervan, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 2001).
In just under 200 pages, Ortberg helps you establish what sort of boat you might be in, and what you might get from a walk of this kind. He makes some firm suggestions as to how to go forward and where to place your reliance.
