Publishing a life-purpose

These pages include two separate features—both about The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity. Below on this page are excerpts from a recent Sentinel interview with Virginia Harris, Chairman of The Christian Science Board of Directors and of the Trustees of The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity. On the opposite page is the text of a talk given by Mrs. Harris at the preview opening of the Library on June 1 this year.

"I love thinking of the Library," Harris said, "as Mrs. Eddy's legacy of love for mankind. Here she was, in 1892, looking outward and forward and knowing that her legacy, and whatever her Board would do with her name and memory, would bless the human race. It is the spiritual vision she had 'to bless the human race' that we're standing on, moving with.

"I would hope—and it's my prayer for the Library—that each visitor who passes through these doors leaves feeling better about something in their life. That they'll take something with them that they've found themselves. What they found doesn't belong to this institution, to a place, or to a time. It remains in their hearts.
