For 40 years I was ill with recurring cystitis. In spite of the medications I took, and the medical examinations to which I submitted, I always had relapses. I was reluctant to leave my home because I was afraid I would be sick. I felt very intimidated by people and was even afraid to go grocery shopping. This problem made me very unhappy, and fear followed me constantly.

Then one day a woman gave my daughter Science and Health. My daughter gave it to me, saying I could be cured by reading this book. The idea that one could recover health by reading a book was new to me.

It wasn't easy for me to understand the book, but I read a little each day. When I finished, I realized I had been cured of a stomach ulcer that doctors had discovered in an X-ray some time before. I was once again able to bend down and work in my garden, which had been impossible because of the ulcer. It was wonderful.
