Utah resident views Olympics through spiritual lens

Standard Examiner

THE RECENT TRAGEDIES affecting our world give us a perfect opportunity to take a look at world events through a different, more spiritual lens. My individual response to this tragedy was, and will continue to be, deep, heartfelt prayer; prayer in support of peace, prayer for the unselfish men and women on the frontlines, prayer with a desire to hear God's messages and see God's Love all around us. The Bible says that this kind of prayer has power and will bring healing balm to the world.

Many of the world's sacred texts teach God's love for us, and call on us to love our brother. These messages of His unconditional love toward everyone, and our need to love others, aren't limited by gender, race, color, nationality, religion, culture, or opinion.

This idea of brotherly love is also one of the tenets of the Olympic effort. In fact, the Golden Rule of several faith traditions is included in the special Olympic edition of a beautifully illustrated book titled A World of Faith, by Peggy Fletcher Stack, celebrating the religious diversity of the world.
