Did you know . . .

Only a handful of athletes have represented their countries in both Winter and Summer Olympics. The first American to achieve this was Eddie Eagan, who won a gold medal in boxing in 1920 and another in the bobsled in 1932. The first American woman to achieve this distinction was Connie Carpenter Phinney. She competed as a speed skater in 1972 and as a cyclist in 1984.
