God's power at work over the holidays
Three years ago, a dear friend and colleague of mine lost his wife on Thanksgiving Day, after unexpected post-surgery difficulties. I was deeply shaken—even more so, because my husband was scheduled to have surgery the following week.
Having relied on God my whole life for healing, I had little experience with hospitals, and that, combined with our friend's loss, made me very afraid. In addition, my husband had been struggling with bronchial problems for several weeks, and I felt the doctors should postpone the procedure until he had fully regained his strength.
I prayed to feel God's love and care lifting me above the fog of worry. But it took constant effort to gain even small glimpses of His power. In addition, I was feeling exhausted after a very crowded fall schedule, during which I had been trying to balance performing as a flutist, teaching, running a concert series, volunteer work, and caring for various family members, including my husband.
