A heart for the disabled
"Access: It Begins In The Heart " is the theme of the Accessible Congregations Campaign, designed to help more churches open their hearts, activities, and buildings to people with handicaps. Sponsored by the Religion and Disability Program of the National Organization on Disability, the program is available to churches of all faiths; over 2,000 churches in the United States and Puerto Rico have already joined.
Besides helping to identify the obvious structural barriers, the campaign focuses on mental obstacles. It "is based on the scriptural understanding that all people, with and without disabilities, are created in the image of God."
