TO FEED THE WORLD: PROD THE POLITICIANS
Bread for the World has been fighting hunger for more than 25 years. Instead of providing relief or development assistance, it focuses on using the political clout of its citizen members to address the root causes of hunger and poverty.
Established in October 1974 by a small group of Catholics and Protestants who wanted to influence US policies in relation to hunger, the organization is currently tackling concerns in the United States and Africa. Bread for the World wants not only to eliminate Americans' misconceptions about foreign aid, but also to ensure that aid is targeted in a way that will reach the people who need the help.
"Africa: Hunger to Harvest" is its current legislative campaign. It focuses on development that fights hunger by strengthening agriculture, small business growth (microenterprise), education, health, and food delivery systems in sub-Saharan Africa, the only region of the world where hunger is widespread and increasing.
